Bike Ride In Livermore

This morning Scott and I went out on our first bike ride together on our new bikes. We decided to go to Livermore to ride. We parked at a train station and then just rode around the outskirts of the city (Scott knew where we were, I had no idea) for a total of 22 miles.

22 miles in an hour and a half.

When we went on that Monterey trail we did 22 miles in about 2 hours. It did have bigger hills but what a difference a road bike makes.

(this is from Strava, an app. You can make segements and race against yourself and other people, kind of cool!)

Livermore is very bike friendly. The whole ride there was only one small section that didn't have a bike lane. Big bike lanes too! The road was pretty smooth for most of the ride and I didn't feel like I was going to get ran over by a car. It would be nice if they could get someone to go out and sweep all those tree pod things though. Those things are nasty and everywhere.

We stopped about half way to run into McDonald's to use the bathroom. That's about all the use we have for McDonald's nowadays!

Scott was getting tired the last bit. I have to say all this running has really built up my stamina. I wasn't even really tired (although now a nap is sounding really good!) We stopped at Subway for lunch and I got a foot long sweet onion chicken teriyaki sandwich. I was starving! A few hours later and I'm hungry still.

This is where I wonder, how do you find the balance of how much to eat when you are being so active? I get afraid of eating too much but if I'm hungry I'm going to eat. Should I just eat all my exercise calories I earn?

We're making a little list of all the stuff we want for bike riding.

Bags for the bike so we don't have to take a backpack (for car keys, money, etc)
I definitely need some sunglasses my contacts were getting a bit dried out for a bit.
Nice water bottles
Jersey Tops with the pockets on the back.

All this being active stuff gets expensive!
