Pushing

Today's run was kind of weird.

My 5k-10k program has this as a "recovery week". So today's run was only a 15 minute steady run. I was trying to figure out what route I was going to take since 15 minutes isn't all that long (I say now, never would have said that a few months ago!) and I wasn't sure if I could get around the lake that fast.

So I decided that I would make that my goal. To get around one lake in 15 minutes. I ALMOST made it. I had to stop running (hard) and jog for a few beats to catch my breath when I was almost done. I'm pretty proud of myself for making it so far but that was definitely a fast pace!

I was a little ways away from home when I was done with the "run" so it took me about 8 1/2 minutes to walk the rest of the way. Kind of killed my splits/average pace but oh well! I guess I could only track the "runs" on runkeeper but I kind of like to have the mileage & calories total. It would take some effort to stop and start it in the transition from the walk to the run and back I think.

So the bad thing about knowing most of your neighbors is that when you are challenging yourself to do something and they are out taking their dog for a walk they see you running and panting like an idiot. Oh well, at least I'll look good at the parties right?

I guess it can't all be easy, right?

thing is... you are running and they are walking- so however goofy you think you look- i bet they are watching in admiration of what you are doing! :)

a few days a week I do short, 2 mile, fast runs. I try to run as fast as I can... I talked to my trainer at work and he said mixing up your runs with long & slow, short and fast, and intervals is the best way to build speed. ... I know I want to get faster just so I can run further without taking more time out of my day!
