Another New Job For Me!

So yesterday we went to Wal Mart. You all know how much I LOVE going to Wal Mart (not!), but I needed to get a fitted sheet and I'm too cheap to pay for a lot of money for sheets. I don't care how great you think the thread count feels. I fall asleep the instant I lay my head down so it doesn't really matter to me. Lately all my fitted sheets have started tearing and now somehow I'm down to the one on the bed, which also has a small tear in it. So that's how I ended up at Wal Mart.

I found a sheet at a decent price and went up to the check out. Surpisingly there wasn't that many people waiting to check out. So I put my stuff on the conveyor belt. It's my turn and I slide my card in the little payment thingy and the

clerk says: mumble mumble?
and I say: what?
clerk says: debit or credit?

I'm like well I just put in my pin number so it's debit right? He didn't say anything else and just handed me my receipt. Jess was with me and she thought it was weird too so it's not just me.

On our way out I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice if they actually had someone that taught people the right way to talk to customers?

Lightbulb moment!!

That could be a job for me. I could go into these places where people don't seem to understand how to treat customers and teach them how.

What do you think? I spent quite a few years working retail. These are just a few things I'd start with:

Hello! How are you today?
Can I help you find anything?
Did you find everything you were looking for?
No?
Well let me help you with that.
Thank you!
Have a nice day!
And SMILE!
And don't tell me about any of your negative personal crap. I don't care! I just need to buy my maxi pads and chocolate bar!

What do you think? Think I could hire myself out?

:)

  1. Have you ever heard of the book "The Richest Man in Town"? The author of the book is from our area, it's about Walmart, and he has cards that say something about "The Power of Thank You." It's so much more than that, though. It's about customer service and how to basically communicate with others in a polite manner. I think you'd be interested in his website.... http://lifesgreatmoments.com/ It's pretty common sense (to me!), but I too have visited places where you walk away and think "That person must LLOOOOVVVVEEE his/her job...NOT!" I think maybe I've worked enough retail to know how to make customer's feel good...even when you don't feel like being nice/polite/etc.! Haha!
