Yesterday, I had to throw in the towel. Admit defeat. I was done. I couldn't do it. It wasn't going to happen. I could no longer keep up with the 70 and 80 year old members at book club.
After spending the whole weekend just being lazy. Only exerting myself with one load of laundry (I realized that was way too much work), taking a shower (hair grosses me out after 20 hours), picking up some scrapbook supplies (ran out of tape runner), and sitting in a chair in my room (scrapbooking).
Until Sunday that is. I had to go to book club and I was really looking forward to it. I made sure to do a few puffs on my inhaler before I left. I didn't want to cough on anyone. When I got there I sat in a chair that was back a ways from everyone else, no cozying up on the couch for me! I felt pretty safe in my little old lady rocking chair. I had my little bubble around me. When I had to cough I coughed into my napkin or my sleeve. I hoped no one noticed that I was coughing but I'm sure they did.
It's rough being the sickie all the time. You have to hide around like a criminal with a pocket full of merchandise hoping you can slip out the door without anyone catching you. Except you have Kleenex in your pocket and you're just hoping no one catches anything FROM you.
When I got home I laid down on my bed. Grabbed my book. Tried to read. But my chest ached. Coughing. Coughing. I looked at the clock and wondered if Urgent Care was still open. I called and they said they were going to stop taking patients in about half an hour. I felt like it was a sign from God.
I grabbed my book and ran out to the car, yelled at Scott and Jess to tell them where I was going. They were outside playing catch. I got the "what's wrong" from Scott. Umm have you not noticed that I have been dying for the last 7 days? Jess offered to drive me, nice but not necessary, thanks! I hopped in the car and speed to Urgent Care hoping that I'd make it in time. WHY WHY WHY must you be in the middle of town? Oh man a Highway Patrol car behind me!
I made it there driving the speed limit (for the most part) and they let me sign in. No one was in the waiting room. ODD. I signed in and people kept popping in from here and there, I guess they had been there before but stepped outside or whatever. If they are closing soon it shouldn't take too long right? It didn't take too long before I got called in and got my diagnosis.
Bronchitis. Again.
If it wasn't for Bronchitis and the occasional UTI (make sure you pee after sex kiddies or you WILL pay), I hardly ever get sick. Oh wait, I just get Bronchitis every month of the winter. Darn.
The good thing about Urgent Care though is that they don't mess around with the 3 times a day for 10 days we don't really believe you are sick antibiotics. No they break out the big guns. Take 2 today and 1 for the next four days and your done medicine. I popped 2 on the way home and by the time I woke up this morning I was already feeling quite a bit better. Oh and I slept great thanks to the take 3 tsp even though it only says 1-2 tsp filled with codeine cough syrup. I didn't even have to get up and try to cough up a lung. It was great! I feel like I have so much energy now. It's like I was going on 1/2 power for 7 days and finally have my ALMOST full charge.
Which has brought me to the conclusion, that we really need to come up with a system. A system for sick moms. Maybe it could work like Paul Revere, someone sends out the message and then it continues on to everyone else.
MOM DOWN MOM DOWN
BRING IN THE FORCES
BRING YOUR VACUUMS
BRING FOOD (Chinese food works great)
BRING YOUR MOPS
BRING YOUR BUCKETS
Then when you are up and going again you aren't smacked in the face with a sink full of dishes, dirty clothes from here to tomorrow, empty shelves of foods for lunches (husband pointed that out at 8:00 last night, guess he thought I'd run to the store or something? THINK AGAIN), wrappers and crumbs all over the living room.
We need MOM POWER. MOM'S TO THE RESCUE. When one mom goes down a team comes to step in and keep up the fight.
It's good in theory right?

I'm Pretty Sure I'm Allergic To Winter
I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to winter.
(how gross is this tissue box cover!?!)
Because, yes, once again, I'm sick. What's weird is this time it started in my chest. Which is nice, since it bypassed the whole head full of snot phase, but not so nice since I'm attempting to cough up a lung. The lung isn't cooperating too much though, although I do slightly pee my pants every so often. Getting old is freaking fantastic!
I've been sick since Monday. I made it to work all week, and yes, my coworkers love me. One of them is blaming me for her losing $400 in wages, having to go to the doctor and getting antibiotics. I think she's a fucking pussy. I made it into work, why couldn't she? (KIDDING!)
Seriously though it pisses me off that she's BLAMING me for getting her sick when she didn't even have anything like I did. I had a cold, she had a fever, the runs and puking. Yeah sounds the same to me. (and who gets antibiotics for the flu?)
I need to find someone to put the blame on for my latest. I'm only slightly enjoying the high I get off of my expired inhaler and cough syrup with codeine. I'm kind of wishing I would have just picked up a bottle of whiskey when I went to the store. That would help me sleep and feel all nice and warm inside.

Amaryllis Love
Right after Christmas I was cruising around Target looking at the clearance deals when I spotted a bunch of forced bulb kids on an end cap.
I've looked at these quite a bit the last few years and decided that for $5 it was worth the risk of me killing it.
Heck the little pot was worth almost that much.
I took it to work and set it up on my desk, and it has become our office entertainment this last week.
First of all, it's HUGE.
The paper that it came with said it would be about 10" tall. Mine? Is well over 2' tall.
It's nice to have something pretty to look at at work. We don't have any windows in the "cave" area where I work. So what do I do with it when it's done?

I'm A Kraft Foodie
I've been making Kraft Recipes all week. I know I've talked about it before but I just love this site! You can pick your recipes and then add them to your shopping list and wahhlaaa you have your menu and all the stuff you have to buy for it. Last week I picked 7 recipes. I've made all but one, which is tomorrow nights dinner.
Here was my menu
Here was my menu
I didn't make any substitutions for this. My meat wasn't a great quality but it was still pretty good! I took the left overs to work and everyone was oooing and aaahhing over them.
I was too cheap to pay for asparagus out of season so I tried a can of asparagus. It pretty much disintegrated but I guess the flavor was still there. This recipe makes quite a bit, enough for lunches and a bit more left over. It's really good. I think I've made it before with zucchini instead of asparagus too.
I only used one onion on this since it seemed like TON of onion. It was still a lot with the one onion and a ton of paprika (reminds me I need to add that to my shopping list since it used what was left!). It just tasted kind of WEIRD. I dunno. I forced some left overs on Scott for lunch and then we threw out what was left. Won't make this one again, guess they all can't be winners.
I read the reviews on this one and a lot of people said it needed more flavor. I only had one pack of the frozen spinach (since that's all it said on my shopping list for some reason). I bought cottage cheese instead of the ricotta (we like that better). When it was done I poured the whole can of spaghetti sauce over the top. It was delicious!
I didn't use the recipe for this, just threw them together. We always use tomato sauce instead of pizza sauce since we like it better. We add salami and olives and mushrooms if I remember to buy them. These are super quick to whip up and one of my stores I shop at sells this HUGE package of English muffins for $2 something.
I made this for dinner tonight and served it over mashed potatoes. It was the bomb! Best one out of the bunch! I used cubed steaks instead of the meat they said but kept everything else the same.
(has a video instead of picture)
This is for dinner tomorrow night. I need to make my menu for next week! I'm going to try and make stuff that is corresponding with what's on sale. I'll make it in the morning when my "lists" come out. (www.couponmom.com)
It was so nice having all my meals picked out, all the ingredients to cook them and on most days, lunches from the leftovers.

Ahhh I can smell Spring!
Today was absolutely beautiful outside! I had a bunch of stuff I needed to do inside, like putting away laundry that has taken over my bedroom but I decided all that could wait.
I went and dug out my older tennis shoes, grabbed the lawn mower I was on my way. The grass is up to my knees insome most places. I got the back yard, and both sides of the house mowed. I was working on the field next to my house when I ran out of gas. I thought about going to the neighbors and begging him for some but he wasn't home.
So then I started pulling crap out of my garden. Old tired alyssum? GONE! Growing in the walk way? GONE! Ugly plant that I don't like? GONE!
I've pretty much decided to redesign and replant the whole front sections by the patio. I should have taken some pictures but I was too busy trying to be productive. I'm going to be lucky if I can walk tomorrow. Here's a picture from back before everything died and went dormant for the winter so you know what area I'm talking about. Pretty much all that is left on that section on the left is the Shasta daisies. I'm thinking about putting shrubs across the far left area by the cement to make hedge of sorts. Then the Shasta Daisies in front (I think I have enough I can divide and replant) and then small color in front of that and the alyssum on the edges of course.
I also want to move that big plant in the upper right corner, that's a hibiscus bush that is HUGE now. I think I'm going to put that somewhere else outside the basic garden area, I'm thinking over in the upper LEFT corner off the side of the cement there.
Picture this, only 2 feet tall and of course nothing in the front of the house where we took out all the grass. (smart thinking!). This picture is kind of old! Even that old tree, and well everything in the right corner is gone now. No more swing set, tree OR old rusty shed.
I'm kind of playing around with the idea of taking out the tree I have planted in the middle of the backyard to make room for more garden design. Hmmmm
This is also a little bit of an older picture. Scott has rebuilt the garage. Hardly any junk in front of the garage, just some construction left overs (I went through the pile today and threw a bunch of stuff in the trash). That tree is 17 years old and it's still so tiny. I planted it when I was pregnant with Jessica.
Our backyard is basically a square so I'm thinking if took out that tree and made 4 sections with gravel in the middle "paths" it would make a pretty cool looking garden. Mostly for vegetables I'm thinking. It would be nice not to have to mow back there at all!
We have empty lots on both sides of us so there's still plenty of places for the kids to run around and play on.
See what happens when I get a little sunshine around here? I'm going to have to be dragged back inside to get that laundry put away...
PS. I have 59 followers! Who's going to be #60??

How was YOUR weekend?
I woke up exhausted this morning. Isn't it weird how that happens sometimes? It's like you didn't even sleep all night, even though you DID. What's up with that anyways?
Did you all have a nice weekend? Friday night we went over to my brother's house for my mom's birthday. Everyone else went to Strings for dinner. I think that place is a bit overprices and I don't like pasta very much AND it was too early for Scott to be able to make it after work so we didn't make plans to meet up for that. We were there for cake and ice cream though. We all hung out and finally got home about 1:30 am so we had a pretty nice visit for the most part.
Saturday Trevor had his baseball try outs, which thank God Scott took care of. Pretty soon we won't have all these relaxing weekends with nothing to do. Hopefully he gets another laid back coach like last year and they only have practice one or two days a week. Preferably not on the far side of town though.
Saturday night I went out dancing with 2 friends at Crocodiles. It was really packed compared to the last time we went there. There wasn't really any place to sit so we just danced and then stood up at a high table we claimed to be ours when we needed a break. There was so many young lesbian girls there. A big group of them was dancing next to us for most of the night and they had no problems showing "affection" for one another. It was like a train wreck. Couldn't help but stare. Bad I know.
Sunday I did the grocery shopping. Too much fun there. It totally amazes me how I can spend $200 and the fridge isn't even packed. I spent that evening trying to finish listening to my audio cd and playing games on Facebook.
Monday I spent the morning getting my coupons organized (tired of spending $200 and having nothing to show for it!) and then took the kids to the movies to see the latest Narnia movie. I never watched the 2nd one (and we even have it on DVD) but I wasn't too lost. I loved the part of the movie when they are holding the picture frame and the waves start coming out!
Which brings us back to today. YAWN. 3 more days until the weekend!

When They Grow Up..
I was just reading the Pioneer Woman's latest 10 posts or so. Yeah. I'm a bit behind in my Google Reader.
She has these cute pictures of her son in a sock monkey hat here.
And that's when a thought occurred to me. We are making a whole new generational "thing". Us blogging moms. These online scrapbooks, bits of pieces of our lives, of our children. Through our eyes. The good, the bad and the ugly.
I wonder what our kids will think when they are older of what we posted about them? Will they get mad that we posted silly pictures of them in sock monkey hats?
Will they read our blogs and see that we are human? With real feelings and pains and learn just HOW HARD IT IS? How hard it is to be a mom, a wife, a co-worker?
Maybe they'll Google their favorite recipe that we make. Look for that cute craft we did. The pictures of them and their date they had to that dance.
Kind of weird to think about isn't it?

Great Reading Weather We've Been Having
Has anyone seen the sun lately?
Can you send it this way?
I think we've had sunshine for a few hours twice in the last few weeks. It's making me kind of depressed! Although it has been good for getting a lot of books read. I have to pick a book for book club next month and I've been trying to find a good one.
The Summer House
by Nancy Thayer
(from Goodreads)
After years of wandering from whim to whim, thirty-year-old Charlotte Wheelwright seems to have at last found her niche. The free spirit enjoys running an organic gardening business on the island of Nantucket, thanks in large part to her spry grandmother Nona, who donated a portion of land on the family’s seaside compound to get Charlotte started. Though Charlotte’s skill with plants is bringing her success, cultivating something deeper with people–particularly her handsome neighbor Coop–might be more of a challenge.
Nona’s generosity to Charlotte, secretly her favorite grandchild, doesn’t sit well with the rest of the Wheelwright clan, however, as they worry that Charlotte may be positioning herself to inherit the entire estate. With summer upon them, everyone is making their annual pilgrimage to the homestead–some with hopes of thwarting Charlotte’s dreams, others in anticipation of Nona’s latest pronouncements at the annual family meeting, and still others with surprising news of their own. Charlotte’s mother, Helen, a Wheelwright by marriage, brings a heavy heart. She once set aside her own ambitions to fit in with the Wheelwrights, but now she must confront a betrayal that threatens both her sense of place and her sense of self.
As summer progresses, these three women–Charlotte, Nona, and Helen–come to terms with the decisions they have made. Revisiting the lives and loves that have crossed their paths and the possibilities of the roads not taken, they may just discover that what they’ve always sought was right in front of them all along.

I think this book is MAYBE book club worthy BUT, it's kind of slow. Nothing too exciting really happens. I kind of like picking something with a little bit more excitement.
The Neighbors Are Watching
by Debra Ginsberg
from Goodreads
Set against the backdrop of the deadly 2007 wildfires that forced the evacuation of half a million San Diego residents, Debra Ginsberg’s new novel, The Neighbors Are Watching, examines the dark side of suburbia—a place where everyone has something to hide.
Aside from their annual block party, the neighbors on Fuller Court tend to keep to themselves—which doesn’t mean that they aren’t all watching and judging each other on the sly. So when pregnant teenager Diana Jones shows up, literally, on her biological father's doorstep, the neighbors can't stop talking. Joe Montana is a handsome restaurant manager who failed to tell his wife Allison that he fathered a baby with an ex-girlfriend seventeen years ago. Allison, already harboring her own inner resentments, takes the news very badly. She isn’t the only one. Diana's bombshell arrival in their quiet cul-de-sac sets off a chain reaction of secrets and lies that threaten to engulf the neighborhood along with the approaching flames from two huge wildfires fanned by the Santa Ana winds.

A former reality TV contestant who receives a steady stream of gentlemen callers at all hours, two women forced to hide their relationship in order to keep custody of their children, a sanctimonious housewife with a very checkered past, and a family who nobody ever sees—these are just a few of the warring neighbors struggling to keep up appearances and protect their own interests. But when lovely, troubled Diana disappears in the aftermath of the wildfire evacuation, leaving her newborn baby and many unanswered questions behind, the residents of Fuller Court must band together to find her before all of their carefully constructed deceptions come unraveled.
A potent blend of domestic drama and suspense, The Neighbors Are Watching reveals the secrets that bloom alongside manicured flowerbeds—and the truths that lurk behind closed doors.

This is MAYBE the book I'm going to pick. BUT there's a lot about the lesbians lovers that live next door (nothing graphic just relationship stuff). Not sure I want to pick that.
Say Goodbye
by Lisa Gardner
from Goodreads
Lisa Gardner, the New York Times bestselling author of Hide and Gone, draws us into the venomous mind games of her most terrifying killer yet.
Come into my parlor . . .
For Kimberly Quincy, FBI Special Agent, it all starts with a pregnant hooker. The story Delilah Rose tells Kimberly about her johns is too horrifying to be true—but prostitutes are disappearing, one by one, with no explanation, and no one but Kimberly seems to care.
Said the spider to the fly . . .
As a member of the Evidence Response Team, dead hookers aren’t exactly Kimberly’s specialty. The young agent is five months pregnant—she has other things to worry about than an alleged lunatic who uses spiders to do his dirty work. But Kimberly’s own mother and sister were victims of a serial killer. And now, without any bodies and with precious few clues, it’s all too clear that a serial killer has found the key to the perfect murder . . . or Kimberly is chasing a crime that never happened.
Kimberly’s caught in a web more lethal than any spider’s, and the more she fights for answers, the more tightly she’s trapped. What she doesn’t know is that she’s close—too close—to a psychopath who makes women’s nightmares come alive, and if he has his twisted way, it won’t be long before it’s time for Kimberly to . . .

Oh my gosh can this woman write!! I listened to this on my iPhone (got the audio book from the library and downloaded it). I was GLUED to my phone. GLUED. It was sooo good. BUT the main story is about boys being kidnapped and raped by men. Soo thinking that's probably not a good book club book.

The Wednesday Sisters
by Meg Waite Clayton
from Goodreads
Friendship, loyalty, and love lie at the heart of Meg Waite Clayton’s beautifully written, poignant, and sweeping novel of five women who, over the course of four decades, come to redefine what it means to be family.
For thirty-five years, Frankie, Linda, Kath, Brett, and Ally have met every Wednesday at the park near their homes in Palo Alto, California. Defined when they first meet by what their husbands do, the young homemakers and mothers are far removed from the Summer of Love that has enveloped most of the Bay Area in 1967. These “Wednesday Sisters” seem to have little in common: Frankie is a timid transplant from Chicago, brutally blunt Linda is a remarkable athlete, Kath is a Kentucky debutante, quiet Ally has a secret, and quirky, ultra-intelligent Brett wears little white gloves with her miniskirts. But they are bonded by a shared love of both literature–Fitzgerald, Eliot, Austen, du Maurier, Plath, and Dickens–and the Miss America Pageant, which they watch together every year.
As the years roll on and their children grow, the quintet forms a writers circle to express their hopes and dreams through poems, stories, and, eventually, books. Along the way, they experience history in the making: Vietnam, the race for the moon, and a women’s movement that challenges everything they have ever thought about themselves, while at the same time supporting one another through changes in their personal lives brought on by infidelity, longing, illness, failure, and success.
Humorous and moving, The Wednesday Sisters is a literary feast for book lovers that earns a place among those popular works that honor the joyful, mysterious, unbreakable bonds between friends.

I'm thinking this one just might work. I'm a little over half way through. It's a pretty short book and has a lot of characters that we can discuss.
What are you reading? I've been filling up my "holds" list on the library website. Hopefully they don't all come in at once!

Blah
Today was foggy. AGAIN. I'm so tired of the fog. It's so depressing. I'm pretty sure it's been foggy all week. I'm thinking if it's still foggy on Saturday I'm going to pack up some stuff and take a road trip somewhere that has some sun. I need to feel the sun beams penetrate my soul!
My cat has been like a magnet lately. At the moment she's sitting on my lap hunched over, leaving just enough room for me to use my hands. She gets very pissy if I throw her off.
It's 7:15 and my husband still isn't home. He was texting me today, being all depressed at work. Poor guy!
Jessica is off at youth group. She drove herself. So very very weird.
Melissa made dinner. OMG that reminds me I never took the frozen veggies out of the microwave. Healthy mom FAIL.
Trevor has been playing on the Wii since he got home. With just his pants on. It drives the girls nuts when he doesn't have a shirt on for some reason. They keep telling him to "get dressed" and "put some clothes on". I think it's kind of funny.
In a turn of events, the dog didn't eat anything while I was at work today. I'm starting to think this might be an "every other day" activity. And that maybe we should buy a new dog kennel that he can't escape out of.

How's that New Years Plan going for you?
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
We ended up going out at about 9:30, down to the bar to meet up with my friend and her boyfriend. We were waiting for them to get out here, sitting here all ready to go. I actually had to wake Scott up when it was time to go! How's that for a sign that you are getting on in years. In his defense he WAS sick (sorry I got you sick honey!)
So we ended up going down to the bar and having drinks and doing a little dancing. We hung out in the clubhouse towards the end of the night. They had had a dinner down there and had some 90 year old guy DJ'ing. He played a few songs that were good enough to dance to.
Check out this hilarious hat! They had a bunch on the tables.
On that note the first day of the new year was brought in with asprin and coffee. I ended up going shopping with my friend from work. That was fun but I was so tired when I got home. I laid down (I was looking up if it as layed or laid and ended up at the urban dictionary and defintely it was not LAYED) to "read" and finally got up the next day at around 8 in the morning.
Sunday Scott went down and got new tires for Jessica's car. It's so nice that she can drive herself around now. I just try to block out all that stuff that "could happen". She's been spending a lot of time looking for a job. Let's hope she gets one so shc can have some gas money!
Monday was work. Met up with my friend who was visiting from Texas for lunch.
Tuesday I took off work to take my friend from Texas to the airport. We got there in record time. The airport is really close to where Scott works so I went to meet him for lunch. It was only 11 but he starts work pretty early. His boss was there and apparently wasn't too happy about him leaving work early to go to lunch (I'm sure waiting one hour to go to lunch really would have changed the guy's whole day). Of course he was nice and polite to me. That night Scott called me at about 6 to tell me he was STILL at work and had at least another hour to go because his boss wanted him to finish up a project. While he was on the phone with me I could hear his boss in the background questioning him about who he was talking to on the phone. Seriously? What a jerk. He got home just in time to play with the kids for a few minutes on the Wii before they had to go to bed. Needless to say he was exhausted this morning. Poor guy!
So how is everyone doing on those New Years Resolutions? I pretty much forgot about them already and it's oh only the 5th?? Well not really forgot just haven't had
