When I was a little girl my mom used to always tell me "less is more" when it came to make up. That always stuck out in my mind so I always tried to go with more of a "natural look" Just some foundation, powder, eye liner, mascara, a little blush and lip gloss on occassion. If I was getting really primped up I might put on a little bit of eye shadow, but not much.
Pretty much everyone I know and have hung out with wears make up. To me it's just part of being a girl, trying to look nice and your best face forward.
When I started working at my job I was really surprised at how many women DO NOT wear ANY make up. I'm not talking old married women either. These are cute, single gals. But they are all so PLAIN looking.
Maybe it's the nature of my job. I work for a "conservation" agency which is pretty much tree hugger central. I didn't plan out to work here, it just kind of fell in my lap so I don't have the mentality that someone that picked this profession would have I guess.
You know, kind of hippy-ish, down on the farm, maybeimalesbian type.
It's really kind of a culture shock sometimes.
Especially when we are discussing wardrobes and someone shows off their "natural" legs. Now I've seen hairy legs before but they were always on a man. The rule of thumb has kind of always been that if you wear anything but jeans, you shave your legs.
Not quite the case here.
So how about you? Do you shave and wear make up on a daily basis?
Oh man. I shave DAILY. I'm actually pretty compulsive about it because since I was way little, I was always fascinated with my mom's smooth legs.
ReplyDeleteMakeup? Eh. I really don't care. I mean luckily, I look pretty good without. Weekends I go without and sometimes I just don't care at work. Obviously if I'm going to a professional meeting or think I may run into executive directors that day, I'm going to dress extra nice and do my makeup. But really? It's one of those things that isn't a huge deal to me. :)
That picture is gross! And I think it's nasty to see hairy legs/pits! Make up whatever if they don't wear it...I feel like I have to, since I'm aperently still going through puberty according to the zits I have!
ReplyDeleteOh and no the topic I was looking at a People Magazine on Sunday and I swear there was a picture for the lady that played mom in the movie Precous, in a gown for some award something and her legs you could tell were hella hairy! NASTY!!!
Shaving legs? Not often enough....but, not so rare I become manly. Make-up? Usually....wish I could go natural, but feel like I look 14!
ReplyDeleteI happily shave daily! Ugh! Can't stand the cave-girl look! heheh.
ReplyDeleteAs far as makeup goes, I feel like it's part of personal grooming (my mom was a beautician/stylist for 30 years, so we grew up in a "beauty" household). I think makeup, when worn well makes a gal look polished, groomed and that she cares for herself. I personally have some issues with skin discoloration so I feel I have to wear makeup to even it out...so either way--I wear makeup unless I'm staying home all day.
