The tubes are out!

Jessica and I have a love-hate relationship with ear tubes. When she was 9 we FINALLY got the Pediatrician to send her to get her tonsils out and tubes in her ears. That was after MANY years of always being sick with either an ear infection or strep. We tried allergy testing and shots (she's allergic to mold and grass-like almost all of them). The shots didn't help all that much, probably because we eventually just stopped going to get them.

Anyhow, when she was 9 we got her tonsils out and tubes in her ears. It was really rough after the surgery. She lost 20 pounds because she wouldn't eat anything but Jello, pudding and Gatorade. It was seriously stressful. The tubes lasted about 2 years before she started having problems again and they pretty much fell out on their own with a tiny bit of help getting them the rest of the way out from the ENT.

After they fell out she got 3 ear infections in a row so we went back in to get another set of tubes. She was really pissed about that. It sucks being the only one having to put ear plugs in your ears when you go swimming. But it sucks being sick more so I made her get them.

So she's had those tubes in her ears for 3 1/2 years. Her ears were bothering her so I took her into the Pediatrician (yeah it's about time for a grown up Dr.!) and she said she had an ear infection and needed to get the tubes out. So we made an appointment with the ENT and that is what we set out to get done yesterday.

I took Melissa and Trevor to my mother in laws and took Jessica to the office to get them out. The ENT said she was old enough she should be able to handle getting them out in the office.

They started by numbing her ears, about 7 shots in each ear.

She was so brave.

I kept watching her hands to see if she was clinching them, but she wasn't.

I half faked reading the magazine I brought in with me.

She told me to leave a couple times but I didn't.
I don't know why she kept saying that. I don't think she really wanted me to leave.

After it was all done we left and walked down the hallway and she burst into tears. She cried all the way to the car.

Then she decided that then would be the perfect time to get her ear pierced on the upper part of her ear.

Because she couldn't feel anything anyways.

I needed some things from Wal Mart anyways so we went to Wal Mart and she got one of her ears pierced.

Then she talked me into buying her an Ipod.

I think she knows how to work me.
But I don't really care.Pin It

Awwww. She burst into tears?? Did it really hurt? How sad.
Yes, kids really know how to work over their mommies when they are going through something.
I hope she doesn't get sick anymore (or as often as she usually does).
Hopefully this was the last time for tubes.
